Day to day programme
Day 1: To Lake Mburo National Park
Your safari begins with a lazy breakfast at the El Cambio Volunteer House, then a short briefing from your guide about the journey ahead. Depart for the scenic three-hour drive to Lake Mburo National Park, through rolling hills, vibrant trading centres and picturesque countryside.
On arrival at the lodge, your lunch order is placed as you check in and settle into your room. After your meal, spend the afternoon unwinding with a swim, relaxing on your private balcony or taking in the peaceful views of the wilderness.
Later in the afternoon, take the short five-minute drive to the park gate for your first safari experience. Choose the adventure that suits your style: a guided horseback safari, a bicycle safari for a more active experience, or a classic game drive in a safari vehicle. Whichever you choose, you have good chances of seeing zebras, giraffes, impalas, buffaloes, warthogs, elands, topis and a variety of birdlife.
As evening falls, return to the lodge for a bush dinner served beneath the night sky. With minimal light pollution, the stars shine brilliantly.
Accommodation: Kigarama Wilderness Lodge.
Day 2: Walking Safari & Kazinga Channel Boat Cruise
Wake to the sounds of nature and enjoy a relaxed breakfast before a short drive to the park gate, where your Uganda Wildlife Authority ranger guide waits. Today's highlight is a guided walking safari, one of the most immersive ways to experience Lake Mburo. Explore the savannah on foot while learning about wildlife behaviour, animal tracks, medicinal plants and the balance of the ecosystem. Early mornings often bring excellent sightings of zebras, giraffes, impalas, buffaloes, waterbucks and countless bird species.
After the walk, return to the lodge to freshen up, have lunch and check out before continuing to Queen Elizabeth National Park.
On arrival, head straight to the Kazinga Channel for an afternoon boat cruise. The channel, linking Lake George and Lake Edward, is known for its concentration of wildlife: hippos wallowing in the water, crocodiles basking on the shores, elephants cooling off at the water's edge, buffaloes grazing nearby, and an incredible variety of birds.
After the cruise, drive through the park to your accommodation and settle in before dinner. As the sun dips below the horizon, admire the golden reflections across Lake Edward over a meal overlooking the park.
Accommodation: Acacia Mweya Wilderness Lodge.
Day 3: Lion Tracking & Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi
After a leisurely breakfast, check out and prepare for one of Uganda's most exciting wildlife experiences. Begin the morning with a lion tracking game drive, joining park rangers as they locate radio-collared lions and share insights into their behaviour and conservation. Along the way, keep an eye out for elephants, Uganda kobs, buffaloes, hyenas and, if luck is on your side, even a leopard.
After the game drive, continue south through Uganda's highlands to Lake Bunyonyi, famous for its terraced hills, peaceful waters and scenic islands. Check in and relax with panoramic views of the lake. The resort is known for its warm hospitality, and it is the perfect place to unwind after an adventurous day. Spend a peaceful evening by the lakeshore before dinner.
Accommodation: Bird Nest Resort.
Day 4: A Day at Lake Bunyonyi
Today is entirely yours to enjoy at your own pace. Wake naturally and savour a lazy breakfast, served in your room or on your balcony, or at the restaurant overlooking the lake.
The rest of the day is for relaxation: take a swim in the lake or the pool, enjoy a leisurely lunch, read a book with spectacular views, or simply soak in the calm.
If you are in the mood for more adventure, optional activities include a scenic boat cruise among the lake's islands, a guided island tour to learn about the area's history and culture, zip lining across the lake, the Ninja Warrior challenge and canoeing on the calm waters.
As evening approaches, gather around a cosy campfire for dinner under the stars, or dine in the restaurant while reflecting on the past few days.
Accommodation: Bird Nest Resort.
Day 5: Return to the El Cambio Volunteer House
Enjoy one final lazy breakfast before a relaxed morning at the resort. Take in the fresh mountain air, capture a few last photographs, or simply savour the peaceful surroundings until around midday.
Check out at your preferred time and begin the scenic drive back to the El Cambio Volunteer House, bringing your five-day adventure to a close.
