Introduction
You're heading to Uganda's most remote park. Kidepo Valley sits in the Karamoja region, near the border with South Sudan and Kenya. Getting there by road takes 700 km from Kampala. That's why most travellers fly instead, on scheduled flights from Entebbe with Aerolink Uganda or from Kajjansi airstrip with Kampala Executive Aviation.
The numbers tell you why the trip is worth the distance. Kidepo covers 1,440 square kilometers, the second largest park in the country. Altitude ranges from 914m to 2,750m. The park holds 77 mammal species and 475 bird species.
On this journey, you will explore the following highlights:
Kidepo Valley National Park
Big Five & Wildlife
Birds & Birding
Mabamba Swamp – Canoe Trip for the Shoebill Stork
Cultural Encounters – Meet Uganda’s Communities
Day to day programme

Our representative meets you on arrival at Entebbe Airport. He stays with you as your driver guide for the rest of your trip. From the airport, it's a 10 to 30 minute transfer to your hotel in Entebbe. Bed and breakfast included.
Hotel options: Budget: Papyrus Guest House. Midrange: Boma Guest House, 2 Friends Guest House, or Best Western Hotel. Upmarket: Hotel No. 5 or Lake Victoria Serena Resort.
Day 2: Entebbe to Kidepo Valley National Park
Early morning, you'll head to Mabamba Swamp for a canoe search for the Shoebill Stork and other resident bird species. Back in Entebbe, you'll catch your mid-morning flight to Kidepo. After lunch at the lodge, you'll go straight into your first game drive in Narus Valley, where buffaloes, elephants, lions, cheetahs, and leopards make their home. Dinner and overnight at your lodge.
Lodge options: Budget: Apoka Rest Camp or Kidepo Savannah Lodge tents. Midrange: Ngamoru Wilderness Camp or Kidepo Savannah Lodge safari tents. Upmarket: Apoka Safari Lodge or Adere Safari Lodge.
Day 3: Game drive and cultural visit
After breakfast, you're back out in Narus Valley. Every drive turns up something different, so keep an eye out for animals you missed the day before. After lunch at the lodge, you'll visit the Karamojong, nomadic pastoralists who live in temporary homes called manyatas as they move with their cattle. You'll spend the afternoon learning about their daily life, and the visit ends with traditional songs and dances. Dinner and overnight at your lodge.
Day 4: Final game drive and flight to Entebbe
A relaxed morning at the lodge, then a game drive on your way to the airstrip. This is your last stretch in the park, so keep your camera ready. You'll fly back to Entebbe and connect with your onward flight from there.
What will you actually see?
Kidepo has two main drives. Narus Valley holds the highest concentration of animals, because it's home to the park's only permanent water sources. Go at 6am or 4pm and you'll catch wildlife gathering to drink. Kidepo Valley drive has fewer animals but better scenery, wide open plains framed by mountains.
Watch the rocks for lions. They sit up on them in the open, easy to spot if you know where to look. You'll also have a chance at leopards, cheetahs, ostriches, and elephants.
This isn't only a wildlife trip
You'll spend time with the Karamojong and the IK, two communities living around the park with their own customs and history.
