Hadzabe Bushmen – The Last Hunter-Gatherers of Tanzania

Deep in the bushland near Lake Eyasi lives one of Africa’s last remaining hunter-gatherer tribes: the Hadzabe. Visiting them offers a rare glimpse into a way of life that has changed little for thousands of years. The Hadzabe live entirely off the land, hunting with handmade bows and gathering fruits, roots, and honey from the wild. Their days are guided by the rhythms of nature, and their laughter and songs echo through the acacia woodlands.

The Hadzabe number only around 1,000 people and speak a unique click language unrelated to other Tanzanian tongues. They live close to the Datoga herders and interact through small-scale trade. A morning spent walking and hunting with the Hadzabe is an unforgettable experience—an authentic encounter with Africa’s ancient human heritage and a deep reminder of our shared connection with the natural world.
